From the Editors

Grilling burgers, chicken, fish, steaks, and Italian-style sandwiches (panini) with no fuss or mess is easy with this handsome, chrome-clad, countertop grill. The top and bottom grilling plates make cooking twice as fast as in a pan, impart appetizing grill marks, and, with their nonstick coating, release food easily and wipe clean with a cloth. Key to the grill's professional performance is a floating hinge system that automatically adjusts to a food's thickness for even grilling top and bottom. The grill's handle stays cool during operating, indicator lights show when the grill is on and when the proper cooking temperature has been reached, and the latch locks for compact, upright storage. The grill carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Customer Response

Same problem - used it 20 times max
This panina maker lasted no more than 20 times max and I will be buying a different brand and model.

Also the 2 lights (green light and red light) were either very confusing (I'm of at least average intelligence and normally have no problem figuring out appliances) or the two lights weren't working properly from the start as the lights made no sense as to when they were on or off.

Krups panini maker
This panini grill is made by a top/solid brand. The first grill delivered was defective, the screw which connects the handle to the top grill was loose. I was able to return it for a 2nd grill and it is out-standing.

Kraps Panini Grill
Yesterday I had to make a repair or dispose decision about this appliance. Out went the four year old, used about four dozen times, out of warranty, Krups Panini Grill. Last use it was heating then both green and red lites went out and no more heating. Being a graduate engineer it appeared, though not so obviously, easy enough to disassemble the unit. The top plate housing can be removed by unscrewing and pulling out the two bolts that connect it to the swivel arms. There are only two bolts that hold the top heating unit together, and the top was the business end of my model. The bottom housing is secured by one screw, but there weren't any controls visible in the bottome section. Once inside the top section I realized it was problably the ceramic white thermister control that opened, and it doesn't reset. After reading other reviews here that seemed to confirm my guess, I searched online for the part. Sure enough it was out there, but at $16 plus probably $7 for shipping, and a special order delivery of two to six weeks, the decision was made to toss it out. The grill had cost me $64 at Bed Bath, and I didn't feel spending another $27 on another unreliable fix by me made sense. Authorized repairs would cost more than a new grill purchase. Also the LED bulb that glows under the green lens looked fried, so if it wasn't the thermister, I'd have to find the proper LED. Will not replace the Krups with another, as this unit seems very unreliable, and not very servicable since parts aren't readily available. Will keep the panini sandwich recipe book that came with it, and just use my cast iron grill pan on top of the stove, it works.

Going strong after 5 1/2 years!
We have had our panini grill for over 5 1/2 years and it still works great--and we use it regularly (2 - 3 times per week). It toasts the bread on panini sandwiches beautifully, is not complicated, cleans easily, handles tall sandwiches well, and feels heavy and solid. I am looking to buy a second for when we have a crowd over for paninis. I highly recommend this.

solid but a little over priced
This is a very solid panini press and you really can't go wrong with it. It makes very good sandwitches with or without a fancy recipe. It heats up pretty fast and does not burn like some of the cheaper models. Having said that, it is definitely not the most cost effective solution. There are other good ones out there for less money that basically do the same thing and look good too.
