Find one and get it
I've been using one for probably 3 years and I couldn't live without it now. I love to toast english muffins, cook veggie burgers, and of course grill sandwiches with it. Let's not forget grilled homemade burritos... practically a staple for me. Flat plates for the win!
Heads up on pricing....
Just a heads up here on pricing for this panini press -
For some reason Amazon is selling this Breville SG820XL Maxi 2-in-1 Panini Press for $149, but it is available for $79 EVERYWHERE else. Check online sources, Bed & Bath, and others.
Sorry, I love Amazon, but something is VERY wrong here.
DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE
I purchased this product expecting a brand new product, as there is nothing stating otherwise. When I got it, come to find out that:
1)This product was previously purchased
3)This product was then returend to seller and was in turn bought by the seller on this page.
3)This product was broken
All I can say is wow!
This thing is so well made and it's uses are virtually endless. We make pancakes, omlets, panini sandwiches, french toast, garlic bread, quesadillas, burgers and more on it. There are literally a hundred different ways you can use it. I did tell my husband that if I could choose only one kitchen appliance to use it would be this thing!! It blows that silly GT express out of the water!! We bought it a while ago and we still use it ALL THE TIME.
Breville No Longer Makes This Model
You're better off buying the Breville BGR400XL Ikon 1800-Watt Removable-Plate Grill than buying this. It does a lot more than just make Paninis and it gets really hot for searing meat, and it's 1800 watts versus the 1500 of this model. Breville no longer makes this. They make a Panini maker sold only on their web site and through Williams-Sonoma, but for the same price you can get the Ikon and it has removable plates you can wash in the dishwasher as well as those 300 extra watts. It'll do paninis AND a lot more for the same price. And as for those removable plates, you have the option of using the flat side or the side with ridges by just turning them over.
And by the way, if you JUST want paninis you don't need a panini maker. You can use a flat griddle on your stove or a Lodge Logic cast iron frying pan (excellent and dirt cheap!) and you can weight the sandwich with a brick wrapped in tin foil and turn it over halfway through the cooking. It works just fine.
