the best i've tried
I have one of this T-Fal sandwich/waffle maker from almost 3 years. It is still nonstick and in v.good condition.I use it very often to make waffle or sandwich. Easy to clean b/c of its removable parts. I've bought this product to my sister's household b/c she wasn't content of those maker what she tryed from other companies (scratchable, easy to stick, from one the t-fllon layer came off after first use).
Just what I was looking for
After using another waffle maker for many years, I finally decided to get a new one. My old one was not easy to clean, even though it said right on it "easy clean", so I hated even using it.
So I bought this one, and it really is easy to clean! Just pop out the griddles (very easy to do) and put them in the dishwasher! Done.
It makes great sandwiches also, using the sandwich griddles, although I wish the sandwich griddles were just flat instead of contoured. That way it could be used for quesadillas(sp?) also. Thats the ONLY downfall I see.
Overall I would certainly recommend buying this waffle maker! The price is right for the features, and it looks good too. Its great for one or two people, but if you need to make waffles (or sandwiches) for more, you may want a bigger one as it only makes 2 at a time.
Love this thing!
I had the Cuisinart WM-SW2 Dual-Sandwich Nonstick Electric Grill for a couple of years and it served me satisfactorily, but it had a few issues. Firstly, I always thought it overcooked the sandwiches a bit. This was not too much of an issue, you just took them out earlier than the timer indicated. Secondly, it was not so easy to keep clean, despite my best efforts, with lots of nooks and crannies that gathered crumbs, grease, or melted food. Thirdly, and the main reason I abandoned it, was that the plastic non-stick coating on the hot grilling plates eventually wore off, so it had to be replaced anyway.
Enter the T-Fal Avante. True, it was a little more pricey than the Cuisinart, but already I'm a big fan. Worth noting is that this one DOESN'T have a timer for when the sandwiches are done like the Cuisinart has, but that's not a problem. The hot plates on this one are metal and heat up so well you only need a minute or so to get lovely golden-brown toasted sandwiches. The fact that these metal plates are removable is a real bonus. It makes it much easier to clean by running them under the tap. As there aren't the same nooks and crannies like in the Cuisinart, the entire machine remains much cleaner and generally more hygienic.
So, in the end we have a more expensive machine, but its solid metal plates, excellent heating abilities, and easy clean-up make it a real joy to use. One thing to note though is that I've only used this for sandwiches... not sure on its waffle-making skills, but I'm sure it must be able to do a good job. As others have mentioned, the plastic latch could be a problem in the future as it feels quite weak, and seriously sandwich-maker folks: isn't it about time these machines came with a dedicated on/off switch on the unit itself? I don't mind removing it from the outlet, but I always worry that one day I'll forget and burn myself or damage the machine.
Great Gift... Now I WANT ONE!!!
I/we bought this for my sister who had been saying she wanted a waffle maker. I thought wow here is a waffle maker and more and the were good that I read. I purchased it off Amazon.com. She loved it her and her kids! Her only compliant was only being able to make two at a time but she really liked the waffles and toasted sandwiches. She even cooked me and my husband some waffles one day and I must admit they were really good. Not too hard and crispy they were very good! So I would recommend it and I want one now too!! lol
works great
This is a great waffle maker. It works well with thin and thick batter, no need for spray and cleans up nicely. If you rely only on the light for cooking time they may be done but light. I like my waffles light brown and crispy so I use a timer and wait at least five minutes. This is what I would consider a small sized waffle maker since it produces only two squares, barely enough for one person, as compared to our Cuisinart that makes 6. We use it at a vacation home where storage space is minimum and use our Cuisinart at home. If you need to produce a large number of fresh waffles in a short period of time this could test your patience.
I ordered from Amazon and it arrived very promptly.
