Customer Response

I was pleasantly surprised
I admit to being skeptical at first, but it really did suck the marinade into the meat with in 20 minutes equal to letting the meat marinade for hours. The only complaint is that for a single serving, the container is a little big, and makes it a bit harder to suck juices into the meat, and directions were not the best. if you plan to only marinade single serving, you might want consider the smaller version of this.

Works as advertised - could use some improvement
I have owned two of these. The first one was bought as a Christmas present about 4 years ago. The second one I purchased last week when I managed to break the first one.

Overall, I've been very satisfied with this marinator. I used it 3 to 4 times a week for several years, often times accidentally leaving it outside in all kinds of adverse weather. It took quite a beating and still performed well. About three weeks ago, I filled the marinator up most of the way and pumped about 20 times. Subsequently, the lid imploded.

The instructions say that if you fill the marinator up about half way, you should pump about 25 times. Fill it most of the way, and you should pump about 10 times. Having never read the instructions until I bought my replacement marinator, I found this interesting, as this guidance isn't highlighted very well in the instructions, nor are the consequences spelled out.

The marinator is much more effective with liquid type marinades (e.g Dale's, Kikkoman Teriyaki) than with sauce type marinades, such as Mrs. Dash and the A-1 Marinade series.

In summary:
- Works well, better with liquids than sauces
- Instructions need improvement
- Perhaps modify the valve to relieve at some predetermined vacuum to avoid implosion issues

Mine just exploded on kitchen counter !!
I purchased this time as a Christmas present for my wife, (ok it was for me too) My first use I put in chicken and Italian dressing. It was seated on the kitchen counter top for about 1 hour when all of a sudden it exploded. Yes it exploded, stuff hit the ceiling and went all over the kitchen. Their are no instructions on how much air to pump out. I must have pumped out too much but how am I to know that? If anyone was next to the counter we would be on the way to the emergency room right now. Interesting product but it's NOT safe. Don't buy.

Great idea, bad implementation
I bought this item to store cereal and coffee as we've had trouble with those little pantry moths. The concept was great and my Dad & I were both very excited to try the product. The problem is that this product is just not user friendly and not easy to use.
The first time my Dad, who is 80, tried to vacuum seal the top, he broke the lid. Since I had 2 lids, we swapped the lid out and then I would vacuum out the air out of the container. I had trouble with the lid, too. Getting the pump placed just right and then "fiddling" would commence until the pump was in the appropriate placement before air removal commenced. This morning my dad again attempted to seal and vacuum the air out of the cereal container, again, with no luck.
I don't recommend this product. It's not user friendly and requires an awful lot of work to get it to function the way it's supposed to work.

New Design
These are the best vacuum marinators for the money. One of mine came with a defect where the fill hole had not been fully drilled out. I drilled it out and it works fine. The pump is the easiest to hook up and use- no hookup needed. These hold vacuum for a long time so medium term storage is a second good use.
