Made me a believer in those "extra" measurements...
When I bought this scale, I was looking for something aesthetic and accurate -- that's about it. And, it is -- both good looking, and *very* accurate (I've taken multiple measurements at various times, and it never wavers more than a fraction from one measurement to the next). I liked the idea that it did body composition, however, it wasn't a main concern at the time...

HOWEVER...

Once I had taken the couple of minutes to read the manual (highly recommended) and set it up, and stepped on it for the first (and second, and third time), my agenda completely changed.
The instructions give you basic ranges of where your metrics (skeletal fat, muscle, visceral fat, BMI, etc.) should be -- and THAT was a wake-up call for me. I was outside the "normal" range for every metric.

That was two months ago.

I set up a spreadsheet with each metric, and I transpose them every three days from scale to spreadsheet (a direct computer connection *would* be a nice feature, as one other reviewer mentioned). As a result of having actual targets to shoot at (and it's easy to follow using the Sparkline graphs I created for each metric in the spreadsheet), my eating habits, exercise habits, and basic approach to health has changed drastically. I have now reached the "normal" range in a couple of those metrics, and I'm approaching them in the others. All the Sparklines are consistently up and to the right (or down and to the right, depending on the goal of the metric).

Bottom line: I've found this scale to be as, or more, accurate and consistent than any scale I've ever owned, including most of the major, highly touted brands, and the side benefit turned out to be a new awareness of my health, and eating/exercise habits. If you're looking to just check to see what effect last night's pizza had on your weight, this isn't for you. If you want to set guidelines, disciplines, and take control of your health, this is just what the doctor ordered! Who would have thunk it would come from just a scale...

body meter review
It works quickly and it is nice to see the comparison to a recent reading. We did notice that body fat composition changes depending on whether you enter male or female and this does not seem to make sense since you would think that body fat is body fat. Obviously, there is no way to calibrate or determine whether the readings are accurate, so you have to have faith that the system is accurate. Other than that, it seems to be a reliable system.

This Scale Gives Excellent Information To Keep You On-Track With Your Fitness Goals!
I use this one and another excellent set of scales. There is probably .5 lb difference between the two, but they have different advantages. This one may be my favorite, because I can compare my results with 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, etc.

I'm particularly interested in building muscle and of course when you do that, your weight goes up, you may panic and think things are going poorly, when they aren't. I don't pay as much attention to the weight as I do the other factors. Am I building more muscle? Is my fat % going up, down, or staying the same? Some of that 'weight gain' may be muscle, which is heavier than fat.

Scales that show me more than just weight keep me accountable and don't make me crazy when I gain a pound or two, as long as one of the more important indicators are improving, fat%, muscle growth, etc.

I recommend this scale. I use it every day. It helps me reach my fitness goals.

The best scale on the market
This is a top of the line product made very well and easy to use, as long as you read the instructions. I love this scale and I'm sure it will be with me for at least a decade.

Great build quality, easy to use
The first thing I noticed was the weight and durability of this unit. It is just over 6lbs, and feels very solid. The setup was very easy and the explanation in the manual of what each different measurement meant and where different age ranges should be was very helpful. I took the advice of the other reviewer on here and made a spreadsheet in excel to track my results. Between the 516 and the 514 the only difference that I can find is the memory in the unit, 180 days vs 90, but with such a small price difference the 516 is worth it.
