Yummy Yogurt
The Yolife Yogurt Maker is one of the easiest appliances to use. I especially bought this yogurt maker, because it comes with the higher dome lid. I initially used the little jars for a couple of times, but now exclusively use 3 large canning jars with the tall cover. I like to eat a lot of yogurt, so what is the point of making only a small amount? I used "Dannon" as a starter culture at first, and it turned out good, but for really great, sweet, and thick yogurt, in my opinion, a greek yogurt like "Oikos" is well worth the money if you can get it in your area. (Mostly available in natural food stores). Even with 2% milk this ones turns out great. One thing I found is important when making the yogurt, is not to let it develop for too long. Around 7 hours is the right time for me, when using the large jars. I also put the little time indicator not as they suggest when the yogurt should be ready, but when I start the process.
A reliable workhorse
I bought this product about 5 months ago and have used it 1-2 times a week since then. I use the tall cover and make two 1-quart mason jars of yogurt each batch. The results are good and consistent from batch to batch. I bought one commercial culture for Greek Style yogurt and I keep one culture started from a grocery store active yogurt and I usually make one quart of each. The Greek Culture makes a wonderful yogurt cheese and the other is a great base for salad dressing, sauces, and desserts. This is the third yogurt maker I have bought since 1975 - and by the far the best - because of the tall cover that allows you to make large batches. I would buy again.
Tribest Yolife Yogurt Maker
Product arrived in pristine condition. It arrived promptly and was exactly as described. I've enjoyed using it so far and find the yogurt to be delicious.
Love it! Exactly what I expected and needed!
After reading lots of reviews and even using a few of my friends yogurt makers, I decided on the YL-210. I absolutely LOVE it. Making yogurt is a trial-and-error process, but after only 3 batches, I have perfected the consistency that I want. The temperature is good and it is so easy to use. The one thing I was guessing that I'd miss is the automatic shut off, but I am using my timer on the stove, and it seems to work for me. I put the yogurt on at night, and in the morning, the kids and I can enjoy fresh yogurt! We are using raw milk, and I have been playing around with not boiling it, since I want the good bacteria to stay, and it works! I also love the option of making different sized containers. My kids love the individual, but I like a big container, so I have been making 3 little ones and a quart canning jar for each batch. Good luck!
If you're on the SCD, this is perfect for yogurt
I have had this yogurt maker for a year and I really like it. I had no point of reference for it, but I liked the possibility of making yogurt in my own containers with the taller lid. I purchased the larger jar offered with it as well as additional small jars. When I originally bought the maker, I had an issue with the incubation temperature being higher than 118 degrees. When I called the company, my maker was replaced without question. I have had no further problems with it and I make yogurt on a regular basis (two or three times a month--fourteen jars).
I found a porous "liner" which I could place on top of the first seven jars and add another seven jars on top of this insert to incubate at the same time. Balance is critical with this, but I have had great success with this method. The top seven jars are not as thick as the lower seven, but that doesn't bother me. If I decide I want the top layer of yogurt to be thicker, I just incubate it another 8-12 hours. As far as I know and have been told, this doesn't do anything to the health benefits of the yogurt or cultures. It tastes great when I put a Tbs. of honey in it to add to the sweetness as this incubation period makes a tart yogurt. It will, however, be almost like mayonnaise in consistency (which is what I prefer). One thing I have learned, I can add probiotics that I have on hand to the mix and have a very different variety of healthy bacteria in my yogurt. This does not hurt the flavor at all.
Taking the time necessary to heat the milk to 180 degrees is not a problem b/c I use a pot/pan which can be placed in a sink of ice cubes in water and it cools in a hurry. It takes me about 10 minutes to make, whether I do a single, double or triple batch. The only negative I can relate is the jar shape. I have found rinsing the jar with a bottle brush immediately after emptying the yogurt allows the jar to come completely clean in the dishwasher. I have a Taylor thermometer which attaches to the side of the pot/pan I use to scald the milk. It will slide up and down making it easy for me to stir the milk while it heats as well as keep an eye on the temperature. I add 1/3 cup of organic, dry milk solids to each quart of milk and sometimes 8ozs of half and half to the entire batch. I also incubate the milk(yogurt) for 24 hours b/c I follow the SCD diet. This maker has been superb for that because there is not an automatic off function. In fact, I am purchasing another one so I only have to make yogurt about every three weeks. I have kept yogurt in the fridge for up to four weeks without problems, but everyone will have to determine if this works for them.
